Oregon Scientific Weather Station

Oregon Scientific THGR122NX Wireless Temperature/Humidity SensorReviewsI've had this Temp & Humidity (etc) device in operation for several weeks now and pretty much like its operation. I tried (successfully) to use the computer logging of weather information, but found the software caused a total drag on my computer CPU and have discontinued using it. I also found that the graphics being generated weren't (or at least didn't seem) totally accurate. (They seemed "off" the actually values a little bit.) The cable supplied with this device seems to be the same sort I use with pocket digital camera, so-I have a "back up" cable connection for this use. I would advise to get a non-computer connected wireless Temp/Humidity sensor and forget the computer connection. Oregon Scientific RMS300 USB PC Datalogging Weather Forecaster! We lost the original in the dirt after digging up the yard for a project. Purchased this replacement and everything works just fine. Like the original. I bought this a month or so ago to track the humidity level in my new, old (1920) home. Since adding attic insulation where there was NONE, my windows have been fogging. It seems to be registering humidity levels satisfactorily. However, I'm basing the accuracy of the humity reading on that of the temperature level -- that's spot on with the furnace thermostat. This unit was inexpensive and a good first step in the decision on whether to add a dehumidifier -- those can be pretty costly. Product works as expected. From my experience Oregon Scientific Weather Stations are one of the best. The batteries last over a year and they are very accurate. After comparing different brands that people I know had I settled on a Oregon Scientific BAR388HGA and am very satisfied with it. I bought this sensor mainly to monitor the temperature in a second floor room. The sensor is approximately 60 feet away, up one floor and through several wall from the main unit, and it work very well. Good product as usual. With time the humidity sensors is becoming inaccurate (going down). The sensor can transmis in Celsius but will display only Farenheits Average Rating:![]() |

Oregon Scientific BAR388HGA Wireless Weather Station with Temperature/Humidity Display and Self-Setting Atomic Clock, BlackReviewsI searched high and low for a middle of the road weather station, one that was not to expensive but yet not to cheap. I was looking for indoor and outdoor temps with outdoor humidity and so the fact that this unit provides indoor humidity as well was a bonus. Set up was pretty easy as well. I have tried the outdoor sensor in two different locations and have had no problem with it. I have been using this weatherstation for about a month now and am happy with everything it does. The features I find the most valuable are the large size of the temperature and humidty numbers, the accuracy of all the displayed information, and forecasts. On the overall It is better than I expected and certainly priced right. The only negative I can think of is the fact that it can't be mounted on the wall but I was aware of that when I bought it. We Have always been pleased with the quality, accuracy appearance and affordability of Oregon Scientific products. This purchase was a replacement for a model we had enjoyed for several years, but believe the remote transmitter had tolerated all the element exposure it was going to. In addition to time and indoor/outdoor [i/o] temperature, this station also displays i/o humidity, barometric pressure, and a graphic of sun/clouds/rain (ice, sleet and snow in applicable parts of the country I suppose). We opted for these features over the original which only registered time and i/o temperature, but did project this information on the ceiling. We miss that feature. The BAR388HGA is a great, clearly laid out device, extremely easy to get up-and-running and provides us with relevant information. It stands steadily on its own using a small footprint. We have not quite decided where to place it as the display is easiest read looking at it straight on and relatively close. There is no backlight, and we have found that discerning the readings on the monotone display requires a purposeful approach in its direction vs a glance from across the room (or up to the ceiling). This is the second request for a review of this product. I sent the first one back to Amazon on 01/18/10 with a negative review. I am totally dissatisfied with this device and requested either a refund or complete replacement. The manufacturer, Oregon Scientific, emailed me on 01/20/10 indicating they were very busy and if I didn't hear from them with a solution to my problem I should be patient and would, eventually, get a response. I feel I have been patient and repeat that I'm dissatisfied with their product and want it replaced or my money refunded. Since my purchase I have noticed other similar reviews of this device. I have been a customer of Amazon for many years and hope my dissatifaction with this product does not signify a beginning of the end of that relationship. This product is just as described. I opened the box. Read the instructions, and inserted (lithium) batteries and it just worked, no problem. As mentioned by others, it took a few hours to bring in the time signal. Then, I had a slight problem setting the Time Zone to Eastern. After fiddling for a few moments, I found that I had to turn the clock time signal off, set the time zone, then set the time signal back on. Didn't see that in the instructions. After that, everything is working fine. It has large easy to read digits for outside and inside temperature and humidity readings. I liked that you could set the date to show the day of the week rather than the seconds on the clock. The size of the unit is good for a desktop unit. The outside sensor has no problem sending it's signal through an aluminum sided house wall from about twenty feet or so. As others have mentioned, it would have been nice to have a removable protrusion from the backside so it could be hung on the wall. Has a nice picture frame look to it. But, it's definitely desktop only. Maybe on newer models Oregon Scientific could consider this. Overall, we love it. Excellent value for the money. Average Rating:![]() |

Oregon Scientific RMR382A-BK Wireless Indoor/Outdoor Thermometer with Self-Setting Atomic Clock, BlackReviewsI've owned half a dozen Oregon Scientific indoor/outdoor thermometers over the years and was consistently impressed at how much functionality I got for my investment. This latest model is not up to the family tradition for quality. The specific issue is a downgrade in the wireless that makes it very difficult to get an atomic reading for accurate clock setting without constantly moving the clock; the same weak wireless means the indoor clock loses contact with the outdoor module if it is moved more than a few feet away. I never had this problem with earlier products from this manufacturer. I am going to repeat what other reviewers said about the annoying beeping because you should NOT miss this: your new clock is going to make an alarming beeping every time it passes through freezing and the only way to stop this is to manually press the alarm button; then get ready because the same thing is going to happen when the temperature moves in the opposite direction. However, you can disable the alarm by moving the setting on the outdoor/remote sensing module (using the switch inside its battery case to remote 2 or 3), then doing a reset to search for remote modules. The directions tell you how to change the remote setting but not that this is the only way to disable the frost warning. I had to go on Amazon to find out. The cool think is I KNEW I'd find the answer here because that is the kind of detail I have come to expect in Amazon reviews. Thanks, all! I wanted a subtle indoor outdoor wireless thermometer suitable for my office setting and I found it in this item. I put the sensor outside on our patio (hung under the eaves with a Command removable hook) and it still transmits a signal all the way into my cube (maybe 20 feet away through walls.) The signal does get a bit weak after about a month when the batteries are drained faster by the cold weather. I bought rechargeable batteries to solve that problem. Haven't had a problem with the ice alarm, but it has been a mild winter. Atomic clock seems to be efficient as well. I got this product from Amazon for my husband for Christmas. What I like about it is the remote sensor, so we know what the outside temp is without having to squint at a thermometer outside. I also like the indoor thermometer, and once I figured out how to get the atomic clock synchronized to the right time zone, that was nice, too. The really annoying thing about this clock is the freeze alarm. It goes off at 37 degrees and 28, very very irritating, especially when the temp is fluctuating right around freezing. And it just doesn't quit--if you're asleep and try to ignore it, it beeps 10 times and then pauses for a few minutes before starting again. The owner's manual directions for disabling the freeze alarm are no good. I had to go online to the company's website to find separate instructions for disabling the alarm: [...]. If you actually want a freeze alarm, I think this one would annoy the heck out of you. If, like me, you don't need a freeze alarm, it is too difficult to turn off. Also, it would be nice if it came with clearer instructions for synching the clock to the right time zone and for turning of that darned alarm. All in all, I'd recommend spending a few more bucks for a better-designed product. This is the third OS product purchased; all three have had relatively short lifespans and this one the shortest...3 weeks. Outdoor sensor seems to be the weak link, stops responding after a period of time. How difficult could it be to program an atomic clock/thermometer? The included instructions are horrible. I had to read and reread certain sections and play with the buttons over and over to get it right and turn off all of the alarms. But now that I have it programmed, I do enjoy it. It's good looking, and has a big bright display! Average Rating:![]() |

Oregon Scientific RM313PNA Self-Setting Projection Alarm Clock with Indoor Thermometer, BlueReviewsThe clock did not set itself right away. I own an Emerson atomic projection clock and as soon as you plug it in it sets itself. So I was disappointed in that feature. The projection feature is okay but the numbers are small compared to my Emerson clock. The two things I like about the Oregon Scientific Clock are the temperature reading and that it is small enough to use as a travel clock. If I had to do it again, I would probably order only one instead of the three I ordered for Christmas gifts. we love it. projects the time. no need to focus - no matter how far away the projection surface is, the numbers are clear. so. if it's so great, why 4 stars? where the time is projected cannot be repositioned. i wish the thing would allow you to point the time projection anywhere. then it would be totally amazing. there are probably good reasons this is not possible, but.. I purchased this projection clock for my husband. The projection part has an AC ADAPTOR, but otherwise only runs on batteries, which is great when the power goes out because you still know the time. My husband loves this clock, the projection is very large and readable (at night only) has many features for a small clock. Works great for us---would buy again. I LOVE THIS CLOCK!! You can really see the time clearly on the ceiling -- even in semi-dark rooms. I had a different clock and you could barely see the numbers on the ceiling even in pitch black. Not the case with this clock. If you are looking for a projection clock -- this is a really good one. Also, great service from the seller. Received earlier than anticipated and in great condition. Thanks! It's a great little clock. I don't think I can go back to a regular clock now. The time projects clearly on the ceiling and I even have a popcorn textured ceiling. Average Rating:![]() |

Housed in high-tech blue plastic, this alarm clock is far more sophisticated than its cute appearance may lead one to believe. Whether you check on the time by consulting the clock's LCD screen or by looking at a large red-light projection of the time beamed onto a wall or ceiling, you'll know it's accurate... |

Weather Station, Wmr90A/Boxs ProReviewsI purchased this weather station for my husband as a Christmas gift. He absolutely loves it! It so far has proven to be accurate and all features are performing well. It is well constructed for the price. It was initially a little tricky to sync the unit with the sensors, you really have to read the directions. Only one downside noted, the unit does not have a backlight for viewing in low light.Overall, a good value for the money. I bought this station to replace an Oracle weather station that finally stopped working. The package arrived intact, and I spent about 2 hours locating the anenometer & the rain gauge. The base unit has a battery backup, and must be plugged in to work. Setting the time was easy - the atomic feature was nice. However, despite the photo, the was no 'illuminated display' that I was able to use. The display will only show average wind & current rainfall; to see accumulated rain or max gust you must manually 'ask' it to show you this, then it will go back to default. The screws used for assembly are TINY. It took a long time to finally put the anenometer together. When I mounted it on my house, (about 100 feet from the base unit), it never synced up. I called Oregon Scientific about the problem, who instructed me to 'reset' it 3 different ways - no luck. So they ordered me a replacement to ship to me. Meanwhile, while waiting the 1 to 6 WEEKS to get my replacement anenometer on a 1 week old purchase, the rain gauge stopped working too. No luck getting that to work either. Luckily, the replacement anenometer came after 1 week. I was excited until I opened the box - and it was the WRONG ONE! This unit on AMAZON has a combination anenometer, hydrogmeter, barometer, and thermometer in one unit. (note: the temp outside/barometer worked, but not the wind function). What Oregon Scientific sent me was a simple anenometer ONLY - which left me without a barometer/thermometer/hydrogmeter. I called to find out what happened, and their 'files' show they sent me the right one. There is no record of what came in the box as being part of the product, and are unable to send me another. Feeling glad that I kept all packaging, I promptly boxed the thing up & mailed it back to the vendor for a full refund. It was a very frustrating, low grade experience. From day 1 this Oregon Scientific weatherstation was malfunctioning. Next, a nightmare started after contacting the Customer Service of Oregon Scientific. Many e-mails have been send and only a few replies. Eventually Oregon Scientific admitted the sensor needed replacement. They promised to send a new one. Oregon Scientific never did. The money spend on this Oregon Scientific weather station was lost. A complain is filed now with the Better Bussiness Bureau. Oregon Scientifics Advanced Weather Station with Wirless Sensor Set, Model: WMR90A It's a cool little device for providing weather information for your immediate area. My unit came with the Base Station, Wind Sensor and Rain Collector. The base station was quite easy to set up just insert the batteries and it communicates by radio with the atomic clock in Fort Collins, Colorado which has a range of 2,000 miles and the date and time synchronizes magically! The instruction manual was easy to follow however because of its uniqueness as an electronic device it requires more attention and focus going through the manual. Installation of the Wind Sensor requires a trip on your roof to look for a good spot and the package comes with everything you need to install it onto a 1-1/2" pvc pipe. The controls takes some getting use to. Not that it is dificult or confusing but to familiarize yourself with its interface and how the engineers had designed this particular weather stations use. Once you've installed the Wind Sensor and the Rain Collector the fun begins with reading inside and outside temperatures and humidity. Wind Speed and Barometric pressures. And if your lucky enough to have it rain you can read the rainfall by the hour. After playing around with it you begin to realize that you can hook up to 10 sensors. With the Wind Sensor and the Rain Collector occupying 2 of the 10 sensor possibilities I began to realize that I can install another wireless sensor in the garage, another sensor upstairs and the other in our green house and monitor the temperature that our plants are having to endure. Upon searching for extra sensors to accomplish this I ran into another sensor that can be placed in a pool or a Koi Pond so that you could monitor the temperature of the water for these two completely different applications. Wish List: After playing with it, I would have loved for the base station to have bluetooth capabilities to bluetooth with my computer and have the ability to make comparisons with say the Almanac data and read the temperature for all of the sensors simultaneously. The Cons: The installation of the batteries on the Rain Collector was difficult only because you must deal with very tiny #0 screw sizes. And there are 8 tiny screws that you have to deal with. There is a reset button that is below the surface of the body that requires something pointy like a pen to depress. The reset button does not give you any indication that you've depressed it properly. Also, the lcd screen could use a backlight because the symbols (icons) are difficult to see. I would recommend this Weather Station. It was a well thought out device and has expansion capabilities that can grow with my needs. Along with your iphone, laptop, digital camera, full size truck, riding lawn mower, power tools, lcd tv in the garage and taylormade golf clubs this little device fortifies anybodys want for more cool stuff. I ordered this for my husband and he loved it. I seems sturdy and well constructed. We put the central part, with the wind vane up on our old TV antenna pole so that it gets unobstructed wind direction and temperature. We haven't put he rain meter out yet. Looking for a good spot that is easy to get to, but safe and not under any overhang, probably on a fence post with a platform. The directions were a bit difficult to get through, although not too hard to assemble. And I would have liked more explanation of what the different bits of information mean on the display and how they are used by weather forecasters. It took quite a while for it to sync up the dynamic clock, so be patient. Average Rating:![]() |

Oregon Scientific THWR800A/BOXW Wireless Floating Temperature Sensor for Professional Weather StationsReviewsI bought this so I could see the temp of our pool. It works great and very accurate. Had it in pool for 2 years and still looks brand new and no apparent harm caused to it from the chlorine. It has a big readout so you can se temp from pool side and or in the pool. My pool is about 40 feet from my weather station and have never had a problem getting signal. THIS IS A WONDERFUL PRODUCT, AS I CAN VIEW THE TEMPERATURE OF MY POOL WATER, FROM POOL SIDE. IT HAS LARGE READABLE NUMBERS. IT SURE BEATS SKIMMING THE FLOATING DUCK OUT OF THE POOL, TO SEE THE TEMPERATURE. THEN YOU HAVE TO DROWN THE DUCK, SO IT FLOATS CORRECTLY. IT CAN ALSO BE PROGRAMED FOR A READ OUT, ON A PORTABLE WEATHER STATION. RAY ASHTON This unit never talked well with our weather station so we bought a new station recommended by the manufacturer and it still would not communicate. This unit also leaked which did not happen with the other floating sensors that I purchased. I have tried one of each brand now with disappointing results, frosted view window, leaking, short duration (3 months) of use, maybe the technology has not advanced enough for this idea yet. Installed the temperature sensor in our Swimming Pool Skimmer. System recognized the sensor in minutes. It worked great. Have owned Oregone Scientific air temp sensor station for over 8 years with ecellent performance an no problems. The floating sensor is a great addition. Rugged construction and large display make it a good sensor even if not used with a remote station. Average Rating:![]() |
