Sony ICF-C318 Automatic Time Set Clock Radio with Dual Alarm (Black)ReviewsI really love this clock radio. The sound is better then expected. It was easy t set the clock but a bit more of a challenge to set the alarm. I actually read the directions, go figure. We have had a few power outages due to the summer storms and it resets when the power returns. I love that feature most of all. I bought this alarm clock soon after switching to a new cell phone. My old one used to have a really loud alarm that was reliable, but the new phone didn't always go off so I had to find something else to wake me up in the mornings. I'm not a light sleeper so I was looking for a relatively loud alarm, but not so loud that it startles me (then I get grumpy). This clock was perfect for the job. ===Pros=== +Good construction, haven't had any problems with the knobs that others have reported. +Love the 2 alarm feature - one for weekdays, one for weekends! That way I never end up forgetting to reset the alarm. +Large display so I can see it from my bed without putting on my glasses. +Brightness settings. The medium setting is perfect for me so that it isn't blinding at night but I can still see it clearly. +Alarm sound starts quietly and increases in volume and frequency. I love this feature because it allows me to ease into waking up, but it still eventually becomes loud and frequent enough to make me actually get up. ===Cons=== -Knobs to adjust alarm time are a little hard to use when adjusting +/- 15 minutes or so...if you hold it too long it will skip a lot, but you don't want to turn it one digit at a time either. At first, looking at the reviews, I was a little hesitant because they mentioned that the alarm was on the quiet side. However, that is not true - it does get quite loud and I am not the lightest of sleepers (have never been able to sleep through one of these alarms). I would definitely recommend this alarm clock. I can't comment on the radio functions because I bought this specifically for the alarm clock function. I bought it for the dual alarms, keep set when the power goes off, and price. It has performed perfectly for those functions. I've never turned on the radio so I have no idea how good it is, but I have lost power and still woke up on time. We have had a towel over our old alarm clock because it was so bright it would give us problems falling asleep. This Sony is GREAT, the dimmer switch is genius, now I can sleep and actually see my alarm clock if I need too. The alarm function is also a added plus, the slow mild beep is a world of difference from our old unit, this clock has an alarm that slowly wakens you instead of blaring an annoying sound. The knobs to change the alarm settings. Just turn the knob and hold to scroll the time. No more pressing buttons numerous times until your finger cries for relief. This is particularly helpful since my husband works swing shift and changes his setting twice a week. Recommendation: Buy it if you're looking for a basic alarm clock that is ridiculously easy to program. just got this clock in. It was very simple to set up...it would be easy to set up even if you didn't have the manual is very simple to use. The proble with our other alarm clock is that the settings were so complicated and difficult to remember that we just use it to tell time now. Average Rating:![]() |

AO Safety 90541 WorkTunes AM/FM Hearing Protector with Digital Tuning and MP3 InputReviewsI bought one of the older versions of this a few years ago and absolutley loved it. The old one required manual tuning. The new one is equally as great as far as drowning out the noise but I am not crazy about the tuning. You can preset channels but if you want to listen to others that are not preset it is kind of a pain to search. Also the AM band on the new set has a constant humming noise and is really hard to listen to. Since my father-in-law listens to AM more than I, I traded him the old version for the new version (his fathers day gift). Bad idea on my part. Still like the product as it does protect the hearing and the sound is pretty good. Would still recommend but if you can find the older version, go for it. Unless that is you are into the MP3, which I am not. They muffle outside noise decently, however; the radio has lots of static at times and the speakers sound just awful when listening to an MP3 player. I found my $15 Skullcandy earbud headphones to block noise better and sound better as well. Reception on the radio wasn't anything close to what my car radio gets, limiting me to about two of the dozen local stations. Radio finally stopped working altogether after about a year for no apparent reason, but MP3 player still works, which is fine. I had good luck with batteries when the radio was operational, lasted decently long periods of time. These are GREAT for protecting hearing (can still hear conversation well enough). I'm a woodworker, and my power equipment can be very LOUD, this solves the loudness problem and is quite comfortable. The first problem I had with these WorkTunes occurred when I was ordering them. I had a pair of "PELTOR" WorkTunes. They lasted 5 years and handled a lot of abuse, so I wanted to get another pair of the same brand. When I searched for WorkTunes, these AO Safety WorkTunes came up. Well, they are not the same thing. They are comfortable, and they provide adequate hearing protection from lawn equipment and power tools such as saws and grinders, but I want to listen to music at the same time and these WorkTunes have very poor radio reception. My previous pair had analog tuning and these are digital. The nice thing about digital is you can't accidentally change the channel by bumping into things, but to get an uninterrupted signal I found that you have to bend the antenna down, so I have had to glue the antenna down to get reception, and I can't even pick up my favorite channel that I used to be able to pick up with the previous pair. I had read a review from someone stating this exact same problem, but I just thought they were simply too far away from the radio towers, but now I see that it's poor reception from the WorkTunes. They are great and I use them every single day, but there is a radio tower right near my house and that particular radio station masks every other one because the electronics in the headphones are not good enough to pick up the other stations over it. The reason I don't really care is that I can listen to my iPod with them, so I am usually the DJ. All in all, great purchase for me, not to mention that the batteries last a LONG time. Sony ICF-C7IP Clock Radio for iPod and iPhone with Hidden Sliding Dock TrayReviewsI purchased this clock becase I wanted to replace my old alarm clock and have something I could charge my iPhone with. So far I have loved it. I listen to my playlists every night with the sleep function. This is great to help me fall asleep. I also like the dual alarms. It is also small and compact unlike other iPhone alarms. Pros: Great reception and sound. Nice and compact w/ an alarm that won't scare you out of the depths of your slumber. Cons: If you have trouble with insomnia, I don't think the intensely bright clock face will help any --it lights up the whole room. I bought this to replace a perfectly functioning clock radio because I wanted one with an iPhone dock. More specifically, I wanted one that had a dock I could use that didn't require me to remove the case from my phone. I was also looking for something that was on the smaller side because my nightstand is not that large. This product filled all those needs. The dock can be hidden in the base if you want to reduce the size and don't need it, but it's very easy to pop out when you want it. I can use the dock with my case if I don't use any of the adapters that come with the dock. It's not a "perfect" fit (there's some wiggle room and it's not always easy to match up the dock pins with the phone in the dark), but once connected it holds in place and works fine. Sound quality is as good as expected. It's not a hi-fi system, but it works fine for playing music in my bedroom. The placement of the buttons is pretty good, but I wish there was a little more weight to the unit so it wouldn't slide when i pushed a side button. Nothing some extra rubber feet couldn't fix. The ONLY reason I'm knocking of 1 star is because the dock slides in and out TOO easily. It clicks in place when closed, but there isn't a locked open position, so that when I'm fumbling to put the phone in the dock, the tray keeps sliding in and out. The one other surprise was that it didn't include the button battery needed for clock backup. Pretty minor in the long run I suppose, and otherwise it's a great product. The Sony ICF_C7IP works great - sounds fine to wake me up - very functional. I'm not using it to replace a stereo system. I just wanted something to charge my iPod touch while I sleep and this works fine. The only issue is that you can't pick up the thing without activating one or more buttons. There are buttons covering every surface so it's a little tricky if you are trying to move it or pick it up to dust. Other than that, I'd buy it again. No problems so far. This was for my 11 yr. old daughter who owns an iTouch. We wanted her to be able to wake up to her music on the iTouch rather than the questionable topics they have on radio in the morning. It is great, and has served it's purpose. It has also been great for her to be able to charge her iTouch. Before she had to plug it into my computer. So now I don't see the iTouch until it needs some downloading. The sound quality is great. This is not a stereo, so don't expect to be able to blast it like a stereo. What is neat is that you can also set the volume for each alarm. My daughter says she loves the alarm. She likes how easy it is to turn off in the morning and also she loves the remote. The Best of Flanders & Swan - A Transport of DelightReviewsExcellent CD still funny after all this time.Little chatty snipits too.Couldn't get away with it now in this era of political correctness. If you enjoy comedy, and you haven't had the pleasure of hearing Michael Flanders and Donald Swann's hilarious act before, then this is a good candidate for you. Although, I would say that you may want to pick up "The Complete Flanders & Swann" instead of just the best of, because you will miss out on some very funny stuff if you purchase this instead of the complete collection. Nevertheless, this is a good starting place and certainly a less expensive option than the other. Flanders and Swann were Michael Flanders (actor and singer), and Donald Swann (composer, pianist, and linguist) and together they wrote, and sometimes performed their marvelous songs. Known best for a series of Animal songs, the most popular was probably "The Hippopotamus", they also wrote many songs commenting on popular culture, "Song of Reproduction", and the oddities of life, "The Gas Man Cometh", and even occasionally politics, "All Gall". All of them are delightful and funny, as is Michael Flanders commentary between each number. Sadly, neither Michael Flanders nor Donald Swann is with us any longer, but they will never be forgotten as long as their music and their humor stay with us. This best of retrospective consists of 10 songs from their 1960 album "At the Drop of a Hat", and 10 songs from their 1964 album "At the Drop of another Hat". It closes with an encore of "The Wompom", which appeared on their album "The Bestiary of Flanders & Swann" from 1961. If you appreciate English humor at all you are going to love this CD, and if you are anything like me you will pick up on new things each time you hear it and grow to love it even more. Your only regret from buying this would be that you will likely realize that you should have bought "The Complete Flanders & Swann" box set, but you have been warned. This takes a careful listening, but as one's ear grows accustomed to the delightful English diction, mirth grows. I found myself laughing out loud, and I haven't done that in a long time. Combine John Stewart ("The Daily Show") with cabaret and set it in 1950's England -- you've got Flanders & Swan. Funny. Insightful. Cutting. Wise. Fun. How can you go wrong? The singing duo were a delight and their humor feels as timely now as it must have forty years ago. Highly recommended. Flanders and Swann were brilliant, witty songwriters who wrote acute but subtle satire (among other things). In spite of the title, this record is not a "Best Of" collection, but a repackaging of their two best-known albums, "At the Drop of a Hat" and "At the Drop of Another Hat." A lot of people don't realize that there were two recordings of "At the Drop of a Hat": the first, produced by George Martin for Parlophone, was recorded during its original run at the Fortune Theatre in London in the late '50s, and is much better than the Angel Records version recorded on Broadway. This reissue, unfortunately, uses the Broadway version, in which Flanders seems a little bored with the material (or perhaps unsure that the American audience will get some of the jokes) and tends to rush the punch lines. This collection also omits one of the best songs from "At the Drop of a Hat"(which certainly belongs on any CD with this title), the conscientious-objection allegory "The Reluctant Cannibal." While this is well worth listening to, your money would be better spent on the original "Hats" in their complete form (with "Cannibal"), preferably the Martin-produced version, if it's still available. At the Drop of a HatReviewsMy brother out-law hooked us into this by giving us the Bestiary album. We enjoyed the songs so much that we went looking for more. The humor is very English, the historical references are sometimes dated (and therefore educational) and the music is first-rate. I must also add that the lyrical complexity is something that bears more than one listen. Flanders manages to squeeze so much meaning out of so few words, that one picks up new insights even after many listens. First heard this when I was in grade school and 50+ years later am still singing the songs on it. We used to listen to it when we came home from school for lunch and with the family after dinner. It never lost it's appeal. I count myself a rare American who appreciates this recording. My uncle sent it to me on tape when I was quite small. my mom, ever handy with the censor's razor blade, let it go--untouched--in spite of the song about madeira, which I now know is about an old man doing the nasty to a young innocent lass. back then, of course, I thought it was about cake! with both mom and uncle passed on, I wanted to buy up what music of theirs I could locate, and I fortunately found the Complete Flanders and Swann, apparently no longer available. i bought up the copy and didn't get scalped, somehow. 45 years after the songs were sung, "Transport of Delight," "Soung of Reproduction," and "reluctant Cannibal," and yes even "Song of the Weather," still reverberate in my mind. i used to sing "The Gas Man Cometh," from the "At the drop of Another Hat" show album, in performances as a teen-ager, and sometimes even got good results. any of their albums are money well spent. For those of you who grew up with the UK recording of "At the Drop of a Hat" be warned - in spite of what it says on the box this is NOT the recording of the 1959 show at the Fortune Theatre. This is the Broadway show. The identity of the recording can be determined in the first minute from Flanders' introduction of Swann as "noted composer, pianist, linguist, also contains lanolin" - in the Fortune Theatre recording he is introduced as "noted composer, pianist, linguist, and all round egghead". There are substantial differences in the two performances, not least of which the pace which is a lot quicker in this recording, lacking the elegant timing which characterised the UK performance and which is comparable to the available CD of "At the Drop of Another Hat" (which WAS recorded in the UK). Many of the jokes and asides are different - for instance in "Have Some Madeira", the Fortune Theatre recording includes an aside "He slyly inveigled her up to his flat, to view his collection of stamps [aside] All unperforated! ha ha ha ..." clearly this was regarded as too risqué for the US performance. The songs are the same vintage and hilarious Flanders and Swann but the presentation, to me, is nowhere close to the quality of the earlier performance - it sounds to me like they were by this stage tired of the material and "going through the motions" for an audience that they did not relate to in the same way as an English audience. Incidentally - Too Many Cookers, Vanessa, Tried by the Centre Court and The Youth of the Heart were not on the original LP recording and judging from the acoustics these were recorded elsewhere. The sleeve notes identify these as being recorded in 1957, 2 years prior to the Fortune Theatre performance. My father used to work in the kitchen, cooking or cleaning, with music playing in the background. One of his favorites was this album by Flanders & Swann. He had seen the show and loved the record. I sang the songs through my childhood and now I sing them to my children, my co-workers, my friends! I only just realized that I can get the original album on CD. WHAT JOY!!! Average Rating:![]() |

P.D.Q. Bach: WTWP Classical Talkity-Talk RadioReviewsUnlike 1967's Report from Hoople, the talk in this one is really annoying. Had it just been the Professor talking I would have liked it, but his co-hosts have to go. 25 minutes of good PDQ Bach tunes and 35 minutes of lame blather I couldn't even sit through once. This is a satire of the annoying disc jockey "personalities" who are all-too-apparent on radio today. As is so often the case with this sort of satire, it mimicks what its mocking a little too closely while not providing enough in the way of humor. There are some good pieces, like the PDQ Bach folksongs, but the music faded to the background when viewed alongside the obnoxious radio personalities. Some of it, was not only annoying, but kind of poinless, like the Elvis parody. I'm a huge fan of PDQ, but this album was too much even for me. Okay, I am not really a listener of classical radio stations, so I cannot comment on whether this send-up of classical radio stations is really fair. But, when I am trapped in a car without my IPOD, I do listen to many pop radio stations and the material on this CD with lots of annoying and stupid DJ chatter is all too familiar. But that is the problem. Listening to this CD is like watching a comedy skit that goes on and on longer than it has to. Yes I did laugh a few times at the material and the liner notes. But I cannot say this is really even "average" PDQ material, hence the below average rating. Ok, it's not better than Citizen Kane. It's just that I played "Jocko" on this CD and had a great time doing it. I'm glad so many people reviewed and liked the recording. Elliott Forrest Let me say at the outset that this is not my favorite PDQ Bach album. I agree with other reviewers that the PDQ Bach works themselves are somewhat less inspiring that on other albums. But there is one aspect of this album that needs to be pointed out: it is an absolutely devestating parody of what has become of classical music radio stations. More and more I find (and apparently Schickele also finds) that classical stations have become watered-down affairs, bland, inoffensive-- "relaxing" they call it. Music for people who basically don't like music very much. You know, background music that you don't have to pay much attention to or think about too much. Basically, high class muzak. This album takes that whole thing on in spades. In fact, in some sense it's really too true to be funny. I swear, the classical station in Boston must really have a "no minor keys until after 11pm" rule, and if they're not quite "all Pachelbel all the time!", they certainly play at least 33% obscure baroque works, while playing maybe 2% romantic and *zero* percent 20th century. So while the comedy on this album may not be the very best, the parody is absolutely spot-on. For that, I say "Kudos!!" Average Rating:![]() |

As we've come to expect from Peter Schickele (aka P.D.Q Bach), this is a comedy CD based thoroughly and utterly in classical music in-jokes, puns, references, mis-hearings, etc. Here, we're in the world of a casual, presumably classical music radio show ("all Pachelbel, all the time"), with a host and two sidekicks, all of whom can't resist "witty" chitchat... |

VTech IS9181 WiFi Streaming Music Device with Access to Online ContentReviewsI bought this about a weeke ago. The setup out of the box was a breeze - had it up and running in 10 minutes. I primarily plan on using this as an alram clock for tunes in the bedroom, but also want to be able to take it out on the deck when working outside. The sound quality is ok - better than your standard clock radio, but not as good as some other systems. Bass is a little "boomy" in the bedroom on my nightstand, but, hey, it's not a Tivoli (and a quarter of the price of one, I might add). A couple of quirks I've noticed: 1 - The setup for listening to files from your computer took me a couple of days to get working. You need to create an account on each computer that carries files you want to listen to - kinda screwy, but not too bad if you're only playing files from one computer. 2 - I wasn't able to get the files to play for a couple of days - At first, I thought there was a firewall/AV issue, so stopped my Norton stufff, but still wouldn't work. I ended up using a simple password (I tend to use complex passwords, as I work in technology) and then was able to get to the files and play them - lesson is, if you want to access your files, be sure NOT to use any symbols in your passwords. 3 - One other thing that happend just today - for whatever reason, the unit lost connection to my wireless router - even though it showed connected, I wasn't able to get my stations to play - ended up resetting the wireless info, and it began to work again - I hope this isn't a recurring issue, so will see how the unit holds up I haven't hooked it up to my sound system yet, but would imagine it would sound no worse than my current laptop hooked to it. For the price, not a bad little radio to have around! I'd definately suggest it for the price. I like nearly everything about this radio. It's sharp looking, nice display, easy setup, GREAT SOUND, works on battery, and every feature I could want..... except ability to connect with Pandora. I really wish it had that. This is the greatest. Have it in my office to listen to classical music. If a internet radio station isn't listed, you can set it up through the internet and have it downloaded. Sound is great. Wish I had one for home, too. Bought this for my son, and he says it's absolutely awesome. Stations from all over the world available in one little box. It's a space saver and excellent quality. Best price out there too. Absolutely love this V-Tech Internet radio -- have it tuned most of the time to a Canadian station which plays only standards fro9m years gone by such as Etta James, Louis Armstrong, etc. It was very easy to set up and use. I checked out many brands including Logitech, Sanyo, Grace, etc.,VTech IS9181 WiFi Streaming Music Device with Access to Online Content & this unit was the best I could find. Motorola 53725 SLK Headset with Swivel Boom Mic (Black)ReviewsThe headset works just like I expected it to. The foam ear-piece can be a little uncomfortable after a long time wearing it, but this is true of almost any headphones or ear-piece. Volume is great for louder environments and it works with the Motorola radio VOX as expected, when you read the instructions. Could be a bit more comfortable, but it works like I expected. These are light weight headsets for motorola walkabout radios. For just communicating in quiet areas line of sight they are great. If you were at a crowded area like a fair or amusement park, it might not cut the mustard. I am satisfied they are a good value for the price. After spending an inordinate amount of time removing it from the packing it was defective. I was going to say more but it's simply this SAVE YOUR MONEY on this item. The item served its use; however not the quality I thought it was priced at. I bought these headphones to use with Trisquare eXRS radios. I wanted a headset with a boom mic rather than the earbuds that came with the Trisquare. The description of these headsets did not specify that they would work with eXRS but the price was good so I gave them a try. They work very well with the Trisquare radios. They are comfortable and the boom mic can be positioned at a desired distance from your mouth. They are sensitive enough for the VOX on the Trisquare. Average Rating:![]() |

Chumby oneReviewsIt's OK, has some nice features and some major shortcomings. It works well as an alarm clock as you can customize alarms as much you want and offers a variety of sounds. The available widgets vary greatly in their usefulness. It can be pretty handy to wake up to the weather. On the other hand, as a previous reviewer pointed out, the wifi reception is poor and the Chumby is very frustrating to use as an internet radio. At times it can stream music such as Pandora without problems but other times it constantly skips and freezes. The customer service responded very promptly to complaints but tried to blame the problem on interference. There are a number of complaints on the Chumby forums about weak wifi. The FM radio is worthless. I can't get a single station. The speaker is decent. It is fine for alarms and spoken broadcasts, not so much for music. The touchscreen is also rather mediocre and I occasionally have to touch the screen a few or even several times for it to register. Chumby One is a nice toy, designed to provide snippets of the internet in a fun way. Since it's supposed to be always connected, it is very disappointing that its WiFi reception is so weak. It can't connect to a b/g router 20 feet away, and behind a wall. Nice little unit, if you keep it in the same room as your wifi router. I received this as a gift in December and the family liked this cool internet toy. The novelty has worn off and I found that the chumby would sit in the kitchen unpowered for weeks. Nobody would bother to plug it in. So I have relocated Chumby to my office and reset to appropriate widgets. I like it here. So I think its value is more personal than as a shared item. You need to think about the user and setting before buying, which is true about any gift really. My 2 cents. I like the graceful alarms, Internet radio, etc. Biggest problem is you can not lock it and the 2 year old messes up the configuration on an almost daily basis. Wish it had an iPhone style PIN login. Milwaukee 2590-20 M12 RadioReviewsI'm not an easily impressed person but this little radio caught me by surprise !!! The sound is quite loud and surprisingly good for such a small radio I have a Tivoli Pal that this radio is gonna replace as my jobsite radio because it is louder and I believe sounds better. The main fault I have is the way the presets work for the radio. The presets are set up in a way that you have to go through all of them to get to the station you want which is annoying. Instead of a single button to handle presets and up & down set of keys dedicated to presets would work much better. The next thing is the power cord is absurd for a device like this,it's a heavy power brick which I'll probably leave home because this unit doesn't charge the battery anyway. I give this radio a 4 out of 5 because of the small annoyances but I would recommend it to another no doubt. I saw and heard this little gem and thought okay, got to have one!!! Then I checked the specs, plays from battery or ac. No charge and play at the same time, just goes to show again, R&D is along way from the field where we work. If you're going to make something for a working man/woman, give us what we need. Tools that combine functions...if this radio would charge my batteries so I could leave my charger at the shop, leaving one more thing behind, I would have taken one home the first day I saw it, as it is this means dragging one MORE thing to the job, so I will wait til they update this so they can charge $30 more for it. If you just want to set it on your work bench, great, it's just the ticket. (if you have space for one MORE tool) Great little radio! If you have to have volume enough to make your ears bleed then this isn't it. This unit is perfect for anybody doing work in private housing or apt.remods where sound can become an issue. The AC/CD cnverter is just one more thing to carry in/out so unless the job is going to last awhile crack a little more leather and buy an extra battery. You can always use it as a spare. I am an M12 compact driver and worklight owner. I work in the construction field where hulking in tool after tool from my truck is an everyday hassle. So when I was in the market for a solid worksite radio, what I didn't want was a big Dewalt brick of a product. Granted, the Dewalt is a good quality radio, it's just too big. So I found this Milwaukee on Amazon, and after reading a few reviews, I decided it was just what I needed. Boy am I glad I chose it. It's unusually small, but very solidly built. My 80gb ipod (5.5 gen) fits snuggly into the provided compartment. There's an auxiliary cable already inside the compartment, with an elastic band that holds the ipod tightly in place. My biggest concern was battery life, especially since like all radios not named Dewalt, this one does not charge the battery while it's plugged in. As it turns out, it hasn't been an issue thanks to the very fast battery charger. In 20 minutes, the battery is fully charged and ready to go. And I've gotten 5 hours out of one charge. Now, carrying around the charger, battery and radio would seem to be a hassle if you, like me, don't own any other Milwaukee products to interchange with. I have to say, it has been no problem whatsoever. I bought a small Husky brand tool bag from Home Depot, and all three items fit perfectly inside. The bag itself is about half the size of a Dewalt radio, so you're still saving space. Add to that the sound quality, which is astounding considering the size difference, and you end up with a very good option for those wanting to stay away from the yellow, or wanting a smaller radio. Pros- Size, battery life and sound. Ipod shock resistant and weatherproof compartment Cons-Battery doesn't charge while radio is plugged in. Great little radio, it sound better than some of the other job site radios three times it's size. The only thing I would change, is have the ipod charge while its pluged to the radio Average Rating:![]() |

Black & Decker StormStation All-In-One Rechargeable Power Source/Radio/Light #SS925ReviewsThis is not dependable in a storm. The light indicating that it is fully charged does not come on EVER. The outlets which would be great for charging a cell phone do not work. It is also an eyesore. The flashlight works. At first, the radio worked. I do not keep it plugged in all the time as I had in the past, so unless I know a storm is coming well in advance, this does not help at all. Used for a couple years, mainly only the flashlight. Purchased in 2005 and flashlight just quit working a couple months ago. Do not see where bulb or battery can be replaced. All other functions still work I would assume. I bought this for my son in law a couple of years ago and it has proved itself over and over again. It's everything you need in an emergency, and my grandkids thinks it is a life saver, they don't like sitting in the dark. This is a toy for picnics and occasional short-term (30 minute) power outages. DO NOT bet your safety on the "StormStation." Shop around. There are far more reliable and practical products for the money. In the meantime, Black & Decker should either discontinue this product or sell it for a vastly-reduced price with a disclaimer that it is not for actual emergencies. Again, DO NOT bet your or your family's safety on this product. I gave the storm station as a birthday gift to a relative in Arkansas. The family was so impressed by the gift they called me and said it came just in time to alert them of an oncoming storm. Every outlet worked perfectly, the light it gave them when the power went out was incredible. They felt so much better and safer having the StormStation during their frequent power outages. Fantastic buy for the money Average Rating:![]() |

Power electronics, small appliances. When storm emergencies hit, it's good to have electricity, light, and a radio. It's even better to have all those things together in one place and easy to find when the lights go out... |

HoMedics SS-2000 Sound Spa Relaxation Sound Machine with 6 Nature Sounds, SilverReviewsLike a number of the other reviewers, I would not recommend this product. The volume knob stopped working after a few months, resulting in the sound cutting off immediately or within a short period. I'm now looking for a different, more reliable, brand. I bought this for my little guy who seemed to wake up to little noises. It worked great for a couple months, we traveled with it and liked the choices of sounds. Then it started to switch to the default sound in the middle of the night (we like the rain or ocean sounds). Now when you try to turn up or down the sound at all, it switches to the default sound as well. It kinda has a mind of it's own. I would return it to the company (I only have had it for 4 months), but it's going to cost at least $10 to ship to them and they want $5 handling. That's almost what it's worth. This is a fine sound machine. it offers multiple options, from rain to waves. It works well and is unobtrusive. Reliability is an issue, however. After a little more than 1 year of use at night, the knob that turns the unit on and controls the volume has shorted out, causing the machine to cut on an off unpredictibly. This defeats the whole purpose, as when it cuts off then comes back on, the sudden noise wakes my children up. Anyway, it worked fine for a little more than 1 year, then wore out. If you need a short term solution, this would be fine. If you want something more reliable, spend your money on something else. I purchased this to help to sooth newborn babies. I am a professional photographer, want the shooting environment to mimic the environment that the babies have been in for nine months. i love it and the parents are impressed that I added this touch of comfort. I think Homedics makes the best little sound machine not much money can buy! Unless you want to fork out some serious change for great sound reproduction, this machine works great. I purchased other inexpensive sound machines, and found their sound loops were too short - I could hear that wave looping over and over. My Homedics has lasted a few years, worked just fine, and I always get a full night's sleep. Average Rating:![]() |

Sonic Alert SBR350ss Sonic Boom Vibrating Alarm Clock with AM/FM RadioReviewsI recommend this product with some reservations. I have had it for over a year. I am an extremely heavy sleeper. I sleep through fire alarms and earthquakes (one small one). It used to take 7 alarms to get me up (sometimes still does). I bought this clock for the vibration feature. This clock works. It tells time consistently with little drift over time. There are two brightness settings for the display and neither one interferes with my sleep. As for the alarm, there are 4 different settings: buzz only, vibration only, buzz+vibration, and radio only. The buzz sound progressively gets louder and louder as the alarm goes off. The buzz is extremely loud and annoying. The vibration works well if you put the disc in your pillow case or under your pillow. I had a problem keeping the disc there though because it vibrates so much that it will fall off the bed. If it vibrates on a wood floor, it will absolutely wake up your neighbors. Thus I had to relocate the disc to secure it underneath the fitted sheet. It is less effective in this location. If you don't have neighbors to annoy, I would say it almost works better just vibrating on a wood floor (very frightening sound). I do think I have been habituated to the vibration a bit as it has worked less effectively over time. The buzz, however, is still very effective at waking me up. The snooze button is clearly indicated by a raised bump. It is pretty impossible to accidentally turn the alarm off when snoozing as this requires moving the switch on the right side of the unit all the way down to the bottom position whereas the snooze is on top of the unit. The radio works very well and it is extremely loud. My biggest reservation/disappointment with this alarm is that it doesn't have a radio+vibration setting. I got this for my husband who has lost all hearing out of one ear. When he sleeps on his good ear he can't hear a thing and would wake up late for work. The first night he used it I couldn't believe how quick he set up when it went off! HeeHee But all funny stuff aside this is a great product and you won't go wrong if you get it. This alarm clock is great except I definitely have to turn on both the vibrator and the buzzer. The vibrator itself is tucked into my pillow case but it doesn't wake me up alone. It is vigorous but I'm just a deep sleeper. I also wish it was able to have the radio as an alarm setting because I'm starting to sleep right through the beeping buzzer. If anyone has any suggestions for great alarms meant for very deep sleepers I'm all ears. =] Excellent Product. I'm really satisfied with this. Quality of FM radio is not that great though. I bought this clock because I have a hella hard time getting up in the morning. But it is simply not worth your money. The LCD display letters are too bright, even on the dim view, and I have to lay it flat when I sleep. The alarm clock has AM/FM alarm feature, which is why I bought it, so I could use the radio alarm and vibrating feature at the same time but it turns out you can't use them at the same time!!! If someone is buying a radio/vibrating alarm, you'd assume it was because they wanted to use them both. Furthermore, the thing doesn't work at random, about once every few days, and you see all those little buttons on top? The second one down from the right is the button to turn it off, the third from the right is the snooze. They are right next to each other, the same size, and in the middle of a bunch of other small buttons. A snooze button should be large and easily distinguishable from other buttons. I don't know how many times I've accidentally turned it off instead, defeating the whole purpose. Easily the worst designed alarm clock I've ever bought. Yeah, it vibrates, and it does a good job at that, when it works, when you haven't accidentally turned it off or thrown it across the room because it's blinding you (you can't place it across the room, by the way, the vibrator cord is too short). A piece of junk. Average Rating:![]() |

Oregon Scientific SE102 LS Heart Rate MonitorReviewsThis product is a really good deal. I paid $30.00 for it and it does more than most $100.00 HRM's. There are a couple of things that the manual doesn't tell you about that other people have complained about. Let me start with the HR alerts they will not alert you until you have started the stop watch part. Once you have done this it works great. Next the year and height part. This is set in a loop it will start at 1983 and 5 feet 7 inches. Keep hitting the plus button if you need a year or height below the starting number it will loop around so you can get to the one you want. The only thing I wish it did was saved you max HR for that workout. It will give you %, avg, and current. This is more than enough for $30.00. Also the vibration alert is the best thing ever you can feel it when running, road biking, and even mountain biking. So far I am happy with this and it should sever me well until I can get a Garmin Forerunner 405. You may look at my other reviews and determine I hardly ever gave 1 star for a product. But this is really the worst product I've encountered in a long time. Let's look at the features first. It comes with a chest strap and a watch. Transmission is from the strap to the watch wirelessly. The watch has time (12/24 format), chrono, alarm, heart-rate monitoring. Now the fun part - it also requires you to enter the user data, in the form of gender, age, height and weight. Based on the values - it tells you your fitness level and keeps track of it, by monitoring your high/low heart rate. Great - isn't it? No wait .. the age STARTS from 1983! The height starts from 5'7". There's only a "+" sign, means you can not go low. The instructions can be thrown down the drain, for you'll require your own brain cells to figure out how to work with this one. Then the heart rate depending on the user data you provided (I believe that's the case, or maybe the nicompoof who designed this made this also default) starts with the LOWER value at 143! Amazing. So effectively, if you happen to be born before 1983 - you can't use the product. I guess the same nicompoof who designed this product thought best that all folks born before 1983 are good to die (maybe) or they are genetically healthy? Where to begin? Setup is long and complicated and irrelevant. Heart rate readings go all over the map and are different from what you get when you check your pulse manually. The calories-burned number is based on heart rate and elapsed time, and is the same for a 100-lb woman and a 200-lb man. The unit is unreliable. Half of he functions in mine stopped working in the first month. Later when I changed batteries, I could no longer enter any data: not time of day, nor fitness level - zip. A call to the Oregon Scientific customer service line was a waste of time. Their response: "Prove you had it for less than a year, and we'll exchange it (you pay shipping both ways), otherwise, go pound sand." Bottom line: this is junk, and Oregon Scientific won't stand behind it. I would strongly recommend against buying any Oregon Scientific product if you think there is the smallest chance that you might need cusomter support. I've been waiting more than two months for part of an item I bought. After five e-mails and a phone call to customer support, I still don't have the item, and without it, I can't use my heart monitor. I would never buy an Oregon Scientific product again. Even with gel, I have lots of trouble getting the sensor to pick up my heart rate until it reaches 120bpm. Once it starts working though it has never lost during an workout. I haven't used any of the other features of the watch, I just use it to display my heart rate. Average Rating:![]() |

Radio Flyer Girls Classic Dual Deck Tricycle, PinkReviewsthis is a great alternative to the pink $[...] sky princess, which is also made in communist china, and way overpriced,,,,my grand daughter loves this This is a great child's tricycle. It's colorful, stable, very sturdy and tough being made from steel. Easy assembly. I give it 5 stars. My niece loves it. I would reccomend this trike to any parent or relative looling for a gift for their child. My goodness what a difference a day makes! I wanted to buy this for my granddaughter, put it on my wishlist, the next day it went from $52 to $70!!! Crazy. Why? So I went online to Walmart and guess what... got it for $43 with free shipping!! Come on Amazon, I used to buy everything from Amazon assured I was getting one of the best prices I could find. Not anymore. Radio Flyer Girls Classic Dual Deck Tricycle, Pink I bought this tricycle for my three-year-old granddaughter and she loves it. I wanted to get a high quality bike and knew I could depend on Radio Flyer. The bike is a beautiful pink. I loved it the minute I opened the box. It is the good, old-fashioned metal tricycle. Easy to assemble, solid as a rock. Well worth the money and very high quality. I'm so glad they added the pink one. I intend to buy my grandson the red one in a couple of years. I wouldn't buy anything but Radio Flyer. The size of this trike is perfect for our 4 year old granddaughter and she has enough leg room to grow a bit more. She will be ready for a two wheel bike by 5 years old. Average Rating:![]() |

Radio Flyer Classic Red WagonReviewsI think this was a good value for the money. Shipping was very reasonable and prompt. We received the wagon in about 5 days. The wagon is sturdy and can be used for play as well as chores around the house. I had a wagon very similar to this one when I was a kid. It held up well and my brother and I played with it a lot. Radio Flyer Classic Red WagonWhen shopping for a "little red wagon" for my needs, I wanted to know what the dimensions of the inside of the wagon were. This I could not find. Here are the ones for this wagon: INSIDE OF WAGON (the carrying area)-- Length 33 1/4 inches (tight fit); Width -- 14 1/2 inches (tight); Outer Length of wagon --36 1/2" (outer "lip to lip" of wagon); Width -- 17 1/2" (outer "lip to lip" of wagon); Whole Length of wagon from outer edge at rear to tip of "axle" -- 38 1/2 inches (Tongue, aka: handle, folds nicely under wagon -- total length with tongue extended approx. 73". The sides are 4" high. I am a 63 yr. old woman with several health issues. I assembled this myself (easy to do if you like assembling things like jigsaw puzzles, etc). I believe the materials in this wagon are very good and durable (of course, time will tell), almost all metal except for tires (ditto). These are not the air filled tires of some versions. The tires are large and solid (heavy) and would appear to take a fair amount of wear. I have not found any sharp areas that might prick a child. I love the extra length on the handle as bending is a problem for me. I have already used this for hauling my groceries into the house from my vehicle. I frequently buy gallon jars of water. This will carry the ten jars in with a little room left over (not much). They say a gallon of water equals 8 pounds. So this carries a fair amount of weight. If I am not buying water, this carries all of my groceries. Sometimes I put a plastic container in it to enable me to stack more groceries in one trip. I also use it for carrying my Chihuahuas on walks. I put their crate (1 crate) into the wagon and off we go. It moves easily on sidewalks. Don't know about any other surfaces. I use it to move things inside the house from room to room (medium sized containers full of pictures that I am scanning to computer which are too heavy for me to carry; larger plants which I relocate from time to time, things that I move from storage and back again, I have even moved an older tv on it -- setting it on plywood on the wagon to do so, etc). So, I am very pleased to have this as it enables me to stay a little more independent and not have to rely upon help from others as much. I think parents would like this for their children. However, the over-sized air filled tires may work better for long walks with children, depending upon the surface you are traveling (then you might need to be concerned about the tires going flat???). I like that this is almost all metal. I keep it on the back porch out of the weather. All metals exposed to the elements will eventually rust. The paint job is excellent and appears reasonably durable. I gave this 4 stars for durability because I have not had it long enough to determine this but it appears to be very durable. I would like to point out that the customers who complain about the smell are absolutely correct! The tires will smell up the whole house quickly if inside for too long. After a while, I cannot stand the smell in the house. I am hoping the smell will dissipate after a while. I feel this wagon is worth keeping ..... but not inside the house. I have enjoyed this so far. I hope this helps someone trying to decide which wagon to get. My 1 1/2 year old Grandson would live in this thing if he could. He pushes it, pulls it and rides in it. It is very sturdy and well made. My husband is also using it. He is laying ceramic tile throughtout the house and the wagon gets a lot of use taking out the old flooring. I have no buyers remorse with this product. Should last us a long time. I did not buy my radio flyer wagon as a toy. I am using it in my garden. It make hauling pots, plants, tools, and bags of dirt a breeze. Good turning radius, however, believe the one I had as a kid turned better. Certainly am glad I bought it. It is a good wagon but I wish the back could be higher. I did not pay attention to this issue before buying. But still a good product, my daughter likes it! Average Rating:![]() |

Radio Flyer Little Red ScooterReviewsGot this scooter for my 2year old for christmas. It is very solid and well worth the cost. He loves it and the little bell that comes on it was a big hit. We are very pleased with the Radio Flyer inventory so far. We have a few other items which is why we went with another one. We have had this scooter for about 6 years, and it's been used heavily by 2 preschoolers. Our kids both started riding it at age 2, and moved on to 2-wheel scooters by age 4 because of the coordination they built on this scooter. It is still in good shape, and has plenty of life left in it - very durable compared to the plastic ones. I would highly recommend this scooter! I am very disappointed with this scooter. Maybe ok for a 3 year old but much older than that it's not. Age says 3-7 and that is not correct. I bought this for my 6 y/o and it is way to small for her. I purchased this as a gift for my daughter's 4th birthday. She was very happy and has played with it alot! The scooter is good quality and just the right size for my daughter. I bought this scooter for my 3 year old daughter for her birthday, after reading many reviews on this one and others. This Radio Flyer seemed to be the best. When she first got it,it was great and she loved it. Her brother, 4 years old, loved it too (many fights:). However, a month later, they don't ride it as much, or very little. The red cap that covers a screw on the rear wheel is in the way, or sticks out too far and they hit it with their ankle when they push off (both sides are the same). So bad, that they both had a bruise on their ankle. I have been trying to figure out how I can either change their style of riding or get rid of one of the red caps. Haven't figured out what to do yet. I think it is very well made and sturdy. Steering and turning is easy. Good exercise! We did have it in the house when she first got it. They love the little bell and streamers. Except for the caps, I have been happy with this purchase. Average Rating:![]() |

Motorola MR350 35-Mile Range 22-Channel FRS/GMRS Two-Way Radio (Pair)ReviewsSimply put, these just don't compare to - Midland Outfitter Series GXT1050VP4 50-Channel 36-Mile Waterproof 2-Way GMRS. I bought three different kinds of comparable radios at the same time. The Motorola came in second, at about two thirds of the distance of the Midlands. By the way, none of them have near the advertised range. It is about 30 percent of what is claimed even with clear line of sight. I noticed that at present, these Motorola radios are about one third less cost than the Midlands. Considering this, I will say they are still well worth the cost. Motorola MR350 35-Mile Range 22-Channel FRS/GMRS Two-Way Radio (Pair) We have six families at a single campground at a lake and wanted to stay in touch with each other. These walkie talkies have worked out perfectly. We're on a lake that extends about two miles. The walkie talkies have no problem getting through the campers and trees and allow us to talk anywhere in the campground or on the lake. Sound quality is excellent. And the privacy channels allow our families to use the airways without chatter from others on the same channel. The weather band has also proved to be a valuable feature due to the high number of thunderstorms we have had this year. My wife liked them so much that she bought two pair for the apartment complex that she manages. She felt they were better than the professional units that they had been using. Nice job Motorola! I highly recommend this product! I purchased two sets of these so that I could communicae with my children and grandchildren when they were out on our property riding on four wheelers. We tested them up to two miles away. I do not know whether they will reach the advertised distance, but for the money, they work well for the purpose they were purchased. We have heard several differing reviews of this product. So we tested for ourselves. Used Channel 13 on low power for all tests. On straight line of sight, works at least half a mile with total clarity - ran out of street. In an indoor shopping center with lots of metal, could go about 1/4 mile with about 20 feet around an "L" before getting drop outs. So people who said that they could barely talk across the street evidently had a bad unit. Overall, very good unit. Like these radios a lot; however, one of the batteries can last for a couple of days while the other one is lucky to last 2 or 3 hours (even with very light usage). Guess I'll need to look into purchasing another battery, which is a disappointment. Otherwise, they are easy to use, broadcast & receive well at least a mile or two away (furthest I've tried - more than I need), AND I LOVE THE WEATHER FREQUENCY. Average Rating:![]() |
